European Sailing Cup

Sail for Gold will continue in 2013!  The European Sailing Federation today released a press announcement which includes:

New EUROSAF European Sailing Cup 
for Olympic Classes, to commence in 2013

EUROSAF, in association with the organisers of Garda Olympic Week, Italy; Delta Lloyd Regatta, The Netherlands; Sail for Gold, United Kingdom; Kieler Woche, Germany and Semaine Olympique Française, France, have signed a joint Statement of Intent and agreed the Rules and Regulations to create a new series, commencing in 2013, to be known as the

RYA Eric Twiname 2013

Mike Garvey and the others from SolentXtra have just got back from the 2012 Eric Twiname Championships which was pretty challenging in many respects.  However, they did a great job and have already been asked to run the same course in 2013.

Dr Bryn Ellis

Bryn Ellis is not only a mark layer on the SolentXtra team but he is also now qualified as a doctor.  Bryn received his results from Birmingham University today at lunch time.  He is:

Ross Wilson Receives Award

Ross Wilson has received well deserved recognition for his years of service within the field of race management.  On 23rd April Ross received the Victorian Olympic Council's Julius L Patching Sports Official of the Year Award.  This year, in an unprecedented move away from the norm, the award was made to not one but two individuals - Ross and his twin brother Kevin. 

RS:X out of 2016 Olympics

ISAF have kicked the RS:X out of the 2016 Olympics in Rio!  At the 2012 mid-year meeting in Stresa Italy, ISAF council voted to include Kiteboarding in favour of windsurfing and the RS:X.  It is likely that windsurfing will appeal at the November meeting but it will be very tough to overturn the decision.
