2012 Events

Past activity (in reverse chronological order) since the team was formally launched in 2012 include:

Olympics, August 2012

Weymouth, England
Well, that was amazing!  We were blessed with good wind throughout the event as far as the RS:X was concerned, so the schedule was completed with the Medal Races on Tuesday 7th August.  …

J Class Solent Regatta, July 2012

Solent, England
All of the Royal Southampton YC members within the
SolentXtra team were there - Mike Garvey as Event Director, Robert Lamb as Race Officer,  Gordon AgnewRichard HouseSimon Pickess

Cork Week, July 2012

Crosshaven, Ireland
A great week but with a tragedy at the end.  Robert Lamb was joined by Martin Stephens and Peter Stuckey.  The numbers in Cork were significantly down this year to only 115 boats.

Coutts Quarter Ton Cup, June 2012

Solent, England
What an event!  Thirty boats closely rated with only seven qualifying for the Corinthian (amateur) trophy.  The racing was exceptionally close making this probably the premier event in the Solent at the moment.

Skandia Sail for Gold, June 2012

Weymouth, England
The weather was terrible!  We saw sunshine just once with almost continuous rain on Tuesday and high winds on Thursday and Friday.  The best weather was on the last day - the Medal Races.

Finn Masters Worlds, May 2012

Pwllheli, Wales
132 Finn Masters competed in testing conditions that were, in the main, light.  Only Thursday provided stable winds of 10-15 knots for the 2 races that day.  Seven races were scheduled with an additional fleet race for those not assigned to the Medal Race.  …

Delta Lloyd Regatta, May 2012

Medemblik, Holland
As the ISAF Race Director, Robert Lamb was leading this year's Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Holland.

This is an event with a tradition of racing for the Olympic classes extending back to 1985. …

Vice Admirals Cup, May 2012

Solent, England
16 J109s, 11 Quarter Tonners and 19 SB20s competed over 8 races on the Hillhead plateau of the Solent.  All races were windward / leewards and, because the newly named SB20s (SB3s) do not have sail numbers on the spinnakers, the gate was to leeward of the start line so the boats beat to the finish.

RYA Eric Twiname, May 2012

Rutland, England
Mike Garvey led this event with Tina Scott, Ros Scott, Jane Windsor and Paul Jackson all from SolentXtra, as well as support from the local members at Rutland.

The Event is for 10 – 14 year old sailors who are on the various high performance coaching programmes of the RYA and this is the culmination of the winters training bringing many to a national level regatta for the 1

RS:X Worlds, March 2012

Cadiz, Spain
It was a windy one! Too windy for Silver Group to race at the back end of the week.  We also lost an anchor when the stainless steel shackle fractured in a gust of 38 knots that hit the fleet, luckily, just as we were about to start race two so there was no great race management issue - we simply displayed AP/H and returned to the marina to find and fit another anchor.

RS:X Europeans, February 2012

Funchal, Madeira
Robert Lamb and Martin Stephens represented SolentXtra in Funchal, Madeira.  Rob was the RS:X Class Race Director.

Different challenges were presented by a championship in Madeira. …
